Did you know that during the last edition of the Pirineos Cup, a unique match in the history of football took place?
This was the match held in Puigcerdà between Liverpool FC (United Kingdom) and CA River Plate (Argentina). According to various sources, no records of official encounters between these two clubs have been found.
On June 29th at 7:30 PM at the Club Polideportivo de Puigcerdà, the quarter-finals of the B13 Infantil category were contested between the two clubs.
The English side began dominating the match and scored first, but the Argentine team quickly responded by equalizing through an impressive individual effort from their center-forward. Ultimately, the game tipped in favor of Liverpool FC, which went on to defeat CA River Plate 3-1, thus securing their place in the semifinals.
Undoubtedly, this encounter will go down in the tournament’s history, as we do not know if these two teams will ever face each other again in the same venue.
